PAINTING CREATIVELY FROM PHOTOGRAPHS With Alexis Lavine (del 5/5)

Sunday, April 26 2:00 - 4:00 at Yew Tree Gallery 604 S. Elm Street Greensboro, NC Learn how to use photos for reference, ideas and inspiration, without resorting to copying them! Alexis will share some ideas on how to make paintings that are better designed, more interesting, and more exciting than the photos which inspired them. All students are welcome, regardless of preferred media and subjects. THIS SESSION LEADS INTO ALEXIS' THREE DAY WORKSHOP ON MAY 1, 2, AND 3. (See below) See Alexis' work at www.alexislavineartist.com Cost $15.00 and a donation of non-perishable food to be donated to Greensboro Urban Ministry's Food Pantry. A Three Day Workshop with Alexis Lavine Friday - Sunday May 1, 2, and 3 10:00 - 4:00 at Yew Tree Gallery Alexis will take the material from a photo and by creatively interpreting and manipulating it, come up with a painting that is better composed, more compelling and much more personal than the photo. She will offer some very specific ways of doing this, and will encourage all students to use their photos in new and surprising ways. Students will be amazed at how original their new paintings are, and how much more interesting and exciting than the photos which inspired them. Students can use photos of virtually any subject. Even bad photos, photos that are out of focus, poorly cropped or improperly exposed, are sometimes the start of a great painting! Alexis' demonstrations will be presented in watercolor, but the thrust of this workshop is how to use photos, not watercolor technique, so use of any media is welcome. Bring your own painting supplies and photos and join us the first weekend in May! Alexis is a signature member of the National Association of Women Artists, the Baltimore Watercolor Society, and the Piedmont Outdoor Painting Society. Her work is currently on display at Yew Tree Gallery and on her website www.alexislavineartist.com Cost of the Workshop is $195 ***Registered students may attend Alexis's presentation on April 26 at Yew Tree Gallery at no additional charge.*** Bring your own lunch or you can order lunch from our neighboring down town restaurants.
